| What we Believe |
 |
We believe God the Father is the first person of the Trinity; God is the creator of everything and existed in three personalities God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit; One essense in three persons. In his desire to save mankind, he sent Jesus as the atoning sacrifice to rescue us from our Sin. Only those who receive Jesus can obtain salvation.
Jesus Christ: the second person of the Trinity; he is equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless life on earth and offered himself as a perfect sacrifice for the sins of mankind. He rose from the grave proving that he is who he said he was. He will return to earth a second time to claim his faithful followers. He is God's ultimate and special revelation to the world.
The Holy Spirit: The third person of the Trinity; equal with the Father and the Son; is present in the world to convict people of their need for Jesus. He lives in every Christian providing the power to live the Christian life and to help them understand the spiritual truths Jesus laid out for us. He intercedes for us in our own weaknesses.
Human beings: people are made in the image of God, but this image was tarnished because of sin. God made a plan to bring mankind back to himself through the death of Jesus, so that his image be restored in people. We are sinful people, and sin separates us from God; but we can be declared righteous before God through Jesus. Without Jesus, we are heading into eternity away from God. We have been given the freedom to choose; therefore, some people don’t choose God
The Bible: is the written Word of God; it was written by human authors under the direction of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth, which map out for us how we should live. It is through God’s Word that people get trained to do the things God requires.
Salvation: Salvation is a free gift, which one must accept. We cannot earn it and we don’t deserve it. When someone turns his life to Jesus, God offers salvation, that begins the moment one accept Jesus into their heart by repenting of their sins and being baptized into his name.
Baptism: the word baptism means immersion; we baptize those who profess faith in Jesus. Baptism symbolizes our union with Christ. Jesus commanded that those who would become his disciples must be baptized (Mat.18:19-20).
The church: the church is the gathering of God’s people; the church is here to carry out the mission of Jesus, to seek and save the lost. We are to bring people into a saving knowledge of Jesus so that they too may be reconciled to God. We are commanded to make disciples of those who are not yet followers of Christ.
We affirm that authentic faith in Jesus evidences itself in submission to Jesus Christ, obedience to the Word of God, and spiritual fruitfulness by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We encourage Christians to live within the accountability and encouragement of a local church that is committed to following Jesus in faithfulness.
We teach that all who love God must demonstrate that love by learning to love their neighbors as themselves.
We desire to be obedient and committed to God by sharing the gospel with those around us.
If you share the above covenants, and would like to be part of the Staten Island Christian Church please come in for a cup of coffee some time and we'll tell you the "Good News" of the Gospel!
